MG Motor, preparing the support infrastructure for its upcoming electric models like the ZS EV, has unveiled its first DC fast charging station. It is installed at MG’s flagship showroom in Gurugram and is available for public use.
The 50kW DC fast charging stations are being installed in collaboration with MG Motor’s partners Fortum Charge and Drive India. The Gurugram station is one of the first four that will be set up in the NCR, with the other three being located in South Delhi, West Delhi and Noida. Six more 50kW DC fast chargers for the public have been installed at MG dealerships in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. These chargers can be accessed by owners of an EV that is compatible with the CCS/CHAdeMO charging standards by registering with Fortum and Drive India via a mobile app.
MG’s first electric offering in India will be the ZS EV which will be unveiled in December 2019 followed by its Jan 2020 launch. Its 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack claims to offer over 400km of range on a full charge. The battery can be charged from 0 to 80 per cent in 40 minutes using a 50kW DC fast charger like the one MG is installing in various cities. In comparison, an AC wall box charger that will be installed in MG’s partnership with Delta Electronics would take around 6 hours for a full charge.
With an expected price tag of Rs 20 lakh, the MG ZS EV will be a direct rival to the Hyundai Kona Electric.
