Latest spy shots confirm diesel-automatic powertrain with more advanced 4×4 technology

Jeep Compass Trailhawk spied again ahead of its launch.

Gets updated front and rear bumper design, matte black section on bonnet and ‘Trail Rated’ badges.

Interior gets all-black dashboard and upholstery.

Gets a new digital MID in the instrument cluster.

More advanced 4×4 drivetrain gets Rock mode and 4WD Low option.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk was recently spotted testing with some camouflage hiding typical Trailhawk elements. It has now been spied in more detail and various shots of the interior confirm that it will get a diesel-automatic powertrain. While the regular Compass is available with a diesel engine, it’s available with a manual transmission only.

As expected, the yet-to-be-launched Trailhawk variant gets a revised front bumper for a greater approach angle. Unlike the international spec Trailhawk, the unit spied does not sport the front tow hooks or the front mounted device for radar-based tech. It also gets the matte-black element on the bonnet to stop light from reflecting into the driver’s eyes, useful when driving up steep inclines. This variant also gets ‘Trail Rated’ badges on the front fenders.

The rear end of the Compass Trailhawk looks similar to the other variants apart from the Ruby Red tow hook (reserved for the Trailhawk variant) and the ‘Trail Hawk’ variant badging. The rear bumper is redesigned for a better departure angle. Like in other markets, the Compass Trailhawk is expected to have a higher ground clearance (225mm) than the standard Compass (178mm).

The spy shots reveal an all-black interior and an automatic gearbox. The 4×4 controls on the central console confirm the use of a more advanced version of the drivetrain as there is a fifth terrain mode called ‘Rock’. In regular 4×4 variants, the Compass gets 4WD lock button. This is split into three buttons – 4WD, 4WD Low and hill descent control. The Trailhawk’s instrument cluster gets a new, larger digital MID for various vehicle controls.

Powering the Trailhawk will be the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as the regular Compass with an output of 173PS and 350Nm, except it’ll be paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission instead of the 6-speed manual. Jeep is expected to launch the new top-spec Compass in India in July 2019 with a likely price premium of Rs 2 lakh over the current top-spec Limited Plus variant, which retails at Rs 23.11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
