2020 Fourth-gen Honda Jazz: What To Expect?
The fourth-gen Honda Jazz will be showcased at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show on October 23 with India launch expected by late 2020 or early 2021
The Jazz is now the ‘most affordable Honda car’ you can buy in India. It acquired the title after the Brio was discontinued earlier this year. But the third-gen hatchback has been on sale since 2015 and Honda is about to showcase its fourth-gen iteration at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. So, what upgrades can we expect on the new Jazz? Here’s a lowdown:
The upcoming Honda Jazz will have a curvaceous silhouette similar to the second-gen model. It will be a significant departure from the third-gen model, which has a sharp design. Spy shots reveal round headlamps with DRLs, horizontal tail lamps that extend into the tailgate and redesigned bumpers.
The fourth-gen Honda Jazz shares its platform with the fifth-gen Honda City that is India-bound for early 2020. So, expect similarities between the hatchback and the sedan in terms of features like always.
Official images aren’t out yet but test mules had a redone dashboard layout and were quite minimalistic in comparison to the existing Jazz. This is also expected with the upcoming fifth-gen Honda City and the new WR-V (whenever it comes).
The touchscreen infotainment unit juts out of the dashboard and it seems larger than the existing 7-inch unit whereas the instrument cluster’s display is reminiscent of the Civic.
The climate control knobs are round with digital display similar to the Swift instead of the capacitive touch unit available on the current Jazz. The steering wheel has been upgraded too and looks a bit like the Honda e electric car.
Honda will equip the Jazz with a hybrid setup in the global markets but India launch is unconfirmed as of now.
A 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder i-VTEC turbo petrol engine that does duties on the Civic in Europe is also expected to be fitted on the Jazz. It delivers 130PS of power and 200Nm of torque.
In the Indian context, the Honda Jazz should soldier on with the 1.2-litre i-VTEC and the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine but in a BS6 form.
India launch is expected by the end of 2020 or early 2021 with prices likely to soar upwards.
